The University of Arizona's 161st Commencement marks its first spring Commencement with President Suresh V. Garimella presiding.

The seven undergraduates, representing a range of majors, will receive the U of A's top awards for their academic achievement as well as their integrity and leadership beyond the classroom.

Flinn Scholars are some of the highest achieving high school seniors from across Arizona. Half of this year's 20 scholars will attend the U of A and enroll in the W.A. Franke Honors College.

Sanghi is one of 53 college students selected for the prestigious scholarship, which is awarded every year to students intending to enter government work or public service.

Weihenmayer is the only blind climber to ascend the Seven Summits – the highest peaks on each continent. Commencement will take place May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Arizona Stadium.

The honorees were nominated by their colleges and approved by the Alumni Advisory Council, a volunteer board of 19 members who advise on alumni engagement and outreach efforts.

Each year, only 18 student across the U.S. are awarded Churchill Scholarships, which support undergraduate students who wish to pursue a year of master's degree study at Cambridge University.

The U.S. Department of State has again recognized the U of A for its commitment as a Hispanic-Serving Institution to fostering international educational exchange and engagement.

Honors student Ilana Valenzuela is eager to study aerospace and mechanical engineering. "I genuinely wish there was infinite time to take every class," she said.

More than 9,300 first-year students, including a record 4,900 Arizona residents, are beginning their Wildcat journeys at the University of Arizona. About 28% are first-generation college students.
