Fall semester launches a new chapter in the University of Arizona's history

The University of Arizona opens the 2025-26 academic year on solid financial footing, with no tuition increase for resident undergraduates and a campuswide focus on its strategic imperatives: student success, research that shapes the future, and engagement with communities.
"We are launching an exciting new chapter for Arizona's keystone, land-grant university," President Suresh Garimella said. "Student success is our North Star, excellence is the standard, and our new leadership team and campus community are aligned and focused on this mission. It was energizing to welcome our students back to campus, and we are looking forward to all that they will accomplish this year."
Provost Patricia Prelock noted that the university is implementing a new enrollment management strategy that prioritizes student success over class size, creates pathways to U of A degrees through partnerships with K–12 schools and community colleges, and refines the entire admission process to ensure that admitted students are prepared to succeed. The U of A will admit every eligible Arizona student to the main campus in Tucson, Arizona Online or the University of Arizona Global Campus.
"Our goal is to create an environment where every student can thrive as a welcome and valued member of our community," Prelock said. "Success for every student means having a positive experience, making steady progress toward a degree, and graduating on time with rewarding career opportunities."
As part of this commitment, the U of A is fully invested in attracting, retaining and supporting students on their path to a degree. This includes offering a broad range of academic experiences, hands-on research opportunities, professional internships and transformative study-abroad programs that expose students to new cultures and ways of life. In other words, student success goes beyond academics. The university provides access to excellent wellness and mental health services, campus events, organizations and other engagement opportunities to help students thrive.
"The University of Arizona is a place where students become lifelong learners, leaders and engaged citizens, and we are committed to giving every student the opportunity and support they need to realize their full potential," Garimella concluded.
