Queerd Science

When

Recent

Queerd Science was conceived as an event to highlight the contributions and roles of LGBTQ practitioners in STEM at the University of Arizona. Science is full of abstract or complex ideas. However, with the help of visual or performance art like dance, illustrations, or infographics scientific knowledge can be explained more easily and reach the intended audience more effectively. In Queerd Science, LGBTQ STEM professionals are paired with a visual performance storyteller, who will interpret the field of study of each researcher in order to tell their LGBTQ STEM story through dance and music.

Our partners for Queerd Science include the American Geophysical Union Voices for Science program; the University of Arizona College of Science, the Tucson LGBT Chamber of Commerce and the PRIDE Department of the Pima County Public Library.

Queerd Science is in honor of International Day of LGBTQIA+ People in STEM, to celebrate and highlight the work and barriers of LGBTQIA+ people in science, technology, engineering, and math.
