In Brief: Celebrating Native American heritage, Festivus returns, Thanksgiving To-Go
(Editor's note: An earlier version of this story had an incorrect price for the full Thanksgiving To-Go meal. It is $149, not $140.)
Celebrating Native American Heritage Month
The university's celebration of Native American Heritage Month will include Native American students and alumni presenting the flags of the 22 federally recognized tribes in Arizona during the national anthem before the Nov. 12 women's basketball game against UNLV and a halftime show featuring Native American performers.
Ahead of the game, the university will unveil a sign on the north side of McKale Memorial Center bearing the words "E yule duv jude da:y o," which in Hualapai Tribe language means "place to play basketball."
In August 2023, the university unveiled a sign outside of Arizona Stadium bearing the words "Dagonitnané zhi nadagonitkaad," which in Apache mean "We will Fight Until We Win."
Also this month, leaders from the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Gila River Indiana Community and the Hopi Tribe will be guests of Levi Esquerra, senior vice president for Native American advancement and tribal engagement, at the Nov. 30 Arizona football game against Arizona State University.
Merchandise featuring the Native American Heritage Month cultural logo, including T-shirts and decals, will be available at the Campus Store, in person and on the Campus Store's online shop, as well as the university's Amazon store and Fanatics store. Some of the proceeds will benefit Native American Student Affairs.
University Libraries is marking Native American Heritage Month, which is celebrated every November, by highlighting databases, research guides and other resources on Indigenous history, art and culture and curating a recommended reading list from University of Arizona Press, which is below.

Employees can get an early start on holiday shopping as Festivus, the Campus Store's annual faculty and staff appreciation sale, returns Nov. 8. Faculty and staff can take 25% off their purchase while enjoying in-store entertainment, refreshments and complimentary gift wrapping.
Festivus – which is named after a holiday invented by George Costanza's father in a famous episode of "Seinfeld" – runs from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. at the flagship store in the Student Union Memorial Center. The in-store entertainment begins at 3 p.m. and includes performances by the Faculty/Staff Choir and Las Aguilitas de Davis, an elementary school mariachi group. The first 100 guests who come to the in-person festivities will receive a door prize. Those who get their CatCard scanned between 3-6 p.m. will be entered to win two tickets to the men's basketball game vs. Duke on Nov. 22 along with two game day shirts. The winner will be drawn on Nov. 12 and notified by email.

Employees can pre-shop at the SUMC and McKale locations from Nov. 4-7 and pick up their selected items on Nov. 8. A CatCard is required to receive the discount. Those who want to use the discount online on Nov. 8 will need to enter their first and last name, department and CatCard number in the "Order Comments" box at checkout. Once the information is verified, the discount will be processed, so shoppers will not see it in their cart.
