Notice of student’s rights Under FERPA and available trainings
Students have received an email from the Office of the Registrar outlining their rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the federal law that governs the access to and release of student education records.
As members of the university community, faculty and staff who access student information in any capacity share responsibility for protecting the privacy and confidentiality of those records in accordance with FERPA and university policy. For an overview of these responsibilities, visit the Instructor and Staff FERPA page.
To help meet these responsibilities, FERPA training is mandatory for any employee who works with student data. The training provides the knowledge and tools needed to manage student records confidently and in accordance with legal and university standards.
Training is available through EGDE Learning for those who need to complete it or would like a refresher.
Departments, teams, and groups seeking additional FERPA training may request a workshop through the Office of the Registrar.
