National Hazing Prevention Week is Sept. 21-25
National Hazing Prevention Week, Sept. 21-25, is an opportunity to reinforce our shared responsibility to recognize, address, and prevent hazing at the U of A.
Faculty and staff play an important role in creating an environment where students feel safe seeking help and raising concerns. Employees contribute to a culture of safety, respect and belonging by:
- Understanding what hazing can look like.
- Recognizing potential warning signs.
- Responding appropriately when concerns arise.
- Helping students connect with university resources.
Hazing may not always be obvious, and students may be reluctant to identify an experience as hazing or report what they have witnessed. Taking concerns seriously, knowing where to refer students, and becoming familiar with university reporting and prevention resources can make an important difference.
Anyone who experiences, witnesses or suspects hazing can report concerns through the University of Arizona Hazing Hotline at 520-626-HAZE (4293) or submit a Hazing Report online.
Faculty and staff can learn more through the University of Arizona Hazing Prevention Coalition and are encouraged to complete the university’s Hazing Prevention and Awareness Training for Staff and Faculty.
Hazing prevention is a shared responsibility. Through awareness, education, and action, we can help ensure that every student can participate and belong without being subjected to hazing.
