UA Facilities Management Honored for Excellence

TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Arizona has received the 2018 Award for Excellence in Facilities Management from APPA, previously known as the Association of Physical Plant Administrators.

The Award for Excellence, which highlights the essential role of facilities operations in the overall institutional mission and vision, is APPA's highest institutional honor. The Award for Excellence designation is valid for a period of five years.

"The Facilities Management Team strives to provide operational excellence as one team in a diverse range of duties all for the betterment of our students, faculty and staff," said Christopher M. Kopach, assistant vice president of Facilities Management.

"The institutions that receive the Award for Excellence are true leaders in educational facilities management," said Dan Bollman, vice president of Professional Affairs for APPA. "This is the UA's second consecutive Award for Excellence, demonstrating the Facility Management department's continued dedication to develop leaders within its facilities workforce and extended its 'One Team' paradigm beyond the department to the broader university community."

The APPA Award for Excellence is designed to recognize and advance excellence in the field of educational facilities. Award for Excellence nominations are in the areas of leadership; strategic and operational planning; customer focus; information and analysis; development and management of human resources; process management; and performance results. Nominated institutions also submit to a site review conducted by an awards evaluation team.

Recipient institutions were recognized Aug. 3 during the awards reception at the 2018 APPA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
