TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona will open the doors to its Wildcat Welcome Center, a new space designed to be campus's "front door" for prospective students and their families.

Completed just before classes began this fall, the center is the new homebase in the Student Union Memorial Center for campus tours with the U of A's student ambassadors. The new location is designed to be a central, welcoming space to support students' college-decision process and to help them get a genuine feel for the university's community and culture.

The center also has open spaces for high school groups to gather for workshops to learn about academic programs, financial aid, student life, the application process and more. Part of the center replaces Gallagher Theater, which once hosted movies inside the union, with a state-of-the-art, accessibly designed theater for students to watch videos about life at the university.

The Sept. 9 event will feature appearances by Wilbur and Wilma Wildcat, a performance by the Sunnyside Unified School District Mariachi Band, remarks from U of A leaders and a ribbon cutting ahead of an open house reception and ambassador-led tours.

Speakers scheduled to attend include:

  • University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella
  • Rep. Juan Ciscomani
  • Rep. Adelita Grijalva
  • Kris Wong Davis, vice president of enrollment management and dean of undergraduate admissions
