TUCSON, Ariz. — A diverse group of students from across the country will put their tech to the test when they remotely drive the University of Arizona's Cognitive and Autonomous, or CAT, vehicle on Tuesday. The college students have spent their summer working on the CAT vehicle as part of the National Science Foundation-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates program. REU supports research opportunities for students from varied backgrounds at hosting U.S. universities. The CAT vehicle demonstration culminates 10 weeks of coding, experimentation and data analysis. The event is open to the public, and students will be available to discuss their research and experience with the program. Tamal Bose, professor and head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is leading the REU this year, along with Larry Head, professor in the Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering. Professor Jonathan Sprinkle, creator and host of the UA CAT program since 2013, is on assignment at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. ###
