At approximately 2:12 p.m. today, the University of Arizona Police Department received a 911 call reporting a stabbing at the Main Library. A female victim has been transported to a local hospital, and a male suspect has been detained by law enforcement.

At this time, it appears that neither individual is a University of Arizona student. We know this news is unsettling, and our thoughts are with those directly affected. Out of an abundance of caution, please continue to avoid the Main Library area while police complete their investigation.

The University of Arizona Crisis Mobile Team is on site at the Library to provide support to those directly impacted.

The incident remains under investigation. Thank you for your patience and for supporting one another during this difficult time.

Students have access to mental health support. They can visit Campus Health's Counseling & Psych Services (CAPS) website for more information about services available to them. Students can call 520-621-3334, schedule an appointment online or drop in at one of CAPS locations during business hours.

Faculty and staff, their dependents and members of their household have access to free and confidential Employee Assistance Counseling available 24/7 through ComPsych.
