The academic success of University of Arizona student-athletes continued in the spring 2024 semester with an average GPA of 3.252, which marks the second highest spring semester GPA in athletic department history. The overall cumulative GPA for spring 2024 rose to an all-time high of 3.336, surpassing last spring's record of 3.332.

The 3.252 average GPA extends the department's record streak of consecutive semesters above a 3.0 GPA to 13. Seven athletic programs achieved their highest spring semester GPAs ever: women's cross country, gymnastics, women's tennis, volleyball, men's basketball, football and men's tennis.

The programs with the highest GPAs for the spring were women's cross country, with a 3.905, and men's tennis, with a 3.637.

Academic success by the numbers

  • 356 student-athletes (75.9%) earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • 215 student-athletes (45.8%) earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • 92 student-athletes (19.6%) earned a GPA of 4.0 or higher.
  • 16 athletic programs posted a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • An average GPA of 3.075 for men's programs is the highest ever for men's programs in a spring semester.

The strong semester in the classroom is just one of Arizona's most recent academic success stories. The athletics department also posted its highest Graduate Success Rate score ever, 89%, in the NCAA's most recently released data in December 2023. That marks an increase of 22% since 2011.

During the 2023-24 academic year, four Wildcats also earned Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, the conference's highest individual academic honor: Hope Hisey (soccer), Gile Bite Starkute (women's golf), Gustaf Strom (men's tennis) and Allie Skaggs (softball). That's the most award winners the university has had in a single year since 2014.
