Beyond being the namesake of the UArizona Poetry Center building, Schaefer made decades of contributions to arts and cultural programs that were felt across Southern Arizona.

The April 26 event in Washington, D.C., will ask "How Free is Speech on Campus, and Does it Matter?" The discussion, which will be livestreamed, is part of the College of Humanities' Fearless Inquiries Project.

Doctoral student Amber Coleman is working on two passion projects as a student developer with the Center for Digital Humanities – an interactive history of the Dunbar School and a video game exploring the history of the Buffalo Soldiers.

The "Crossing Latinidades: Emerging Scholars and New Comparative Directions" project centers on research and training initiatives that will expand opportunities for a growing population of Latinx students and support a national cohort of doctoral students in Latinx humanities studies.

Gifts and commitments reached $345.2 million during the 2020-21 academic year. The previous high was in fiscal year 2019, when alumni and friends gave and pledged $334.6 million.

Best-selling author Walter Isaacson will headline the festival, which is presented by the College of Humanities. Isaacson will appear live at Centennial Hall on Oct. 8.

The gift from alumni Jacquelynn and Bennett Dorrance will endow the deanship of the College of Humanities. Alain-Philippe Durand is the inaugural holder of the deanship.

The new minor is an effort years in the making, and will focus on what has become the fastest-growing racial or ethnic group in the United States.

The Arizona Board of Regents confirmed the appointments of UArizona faculty members Steven Archer, Sonia Colina, Marwan Krunz, Dante Lauretta, Sallie Marston and Ian Pepper as Regents Professors.
