President Robert C. Robbins thanked Faculty Senate members for their participation in the strategic planning process, and gave updates on two senior vice president searches. Tony Proudfoot, interim senior vice president for marketing and communications, gave an overview of plans to create a brand platform for the UA.

Assistant professor of art and printmaker Aaron Coleman's first foray into art involved painting graffiti on bridges and trains. Two decades later, his prints are in exhibits and collections all over the world, and he's helping usher in the next generation of artists. UA art history professor Pia Cuneo's personal and professional interests are intertwined by a lifelong passion for horses. Cuneo's fascination, which began when she was a child, informs her research as an art historian.

During the hourlong forum, Robbins answered questions about the UA's strengths and challenges, as well as the role it should play locally and globally.

The UA Center for Creative Photography is one of a handful in the country with a full-time photograph conservator. Dana Hemmenway, who recently joined the UA, explains why preserving photographs is as much an art as it is a science.

Frank M. Whiting, professor emeritus of animal science, died in November at the age of 84. "He encouraged us and built our confidence," a former student recalled at his memorial. "If we messed up, he showed us how to fix it and pushed us to try again."

Faculty members preparing to teach a class in one of the UA's 20 collaborative learning spaces can experiment with new classroom technologies, rehearse course materials and meet with colleagues to discuss best teaching practices in the Collaborative Faculty Room. Centrally located in the Science-Engineering Library, the room is a valuable resource for the growing number of instructors who are redesigning their courses to be more collaborative and interactive.
