A Whole Person Approach to Employee Wellness
At the University of Arizona, Life & Work Connections offers services to help employees successfully adjust to any phase in life while maintaining a positive work-life balance.
Life & Work Connections is a division of Human Resources that provides work-life resources to the UA community. Services include child and elder care assistance, as well as various employee wellness and work-life integration programs. Allison Vaillancourt, vice president for institutional effectiveness and human resources, said the program is unique because of its "whole-person" approach to promoting health.
"A lot of other universities have wellness programs," Vaillancourt said. "But they don't have a program that's designed like our Life & Work Connections program is designed. ... The Life & Work Connections folks really look at us as whole people."
For four consecutive years, UA Life & Work Connections has been recognized as a leadership model for work-life practices with the WorldatWork's Alliance Seal of Distinction. The award recognizes the UA for providing a wide variety of workplace policies, programs and practices that support employees across all major aspects of work-life integration.
"We are not an amazing university because of our buildings, or our research labs, or our IT infrastructure," Vaillancourt said. "We are amazing because of our people. So we have to take care of our people."
