New youth protection policy for third-party contractors and contract requirements

The university has issued the Youth Programs Hosted by Third-Party Contractors policy. The policy applies to non-university activities, events or programs conducted, operated or organized by non-university entities that take place on property controlled, leased, operated or owned by the University of Arizona. This includes, but is not limited to, facility rentals to a third-party.

Requirements under the new policy include:

• Use of a contract approved through Finance & Budget Contracting Services or the authorized contract addendum, both of which include youth protection safeguards
• Education on child abuse and neglect reporting for adults working with third-party youth programs
• Successful completion of criminal background checks for adults working with third-party youth programs
• Training on child abuse prevention for adults working with third-party youth programs
• Designation of one or more individuals responsible for facilitating emergency response
