Leadership Update in Academic Affairs
On April 21, Provost Patricia Prelock and Senior Vice Provost Jenna Rickus sent a message to employees in Academic Affairs announcing that Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Greg Heileman has been appointed to a provost role at an internationally recognized institution. The message is below and posted on the Office of the Provost website.
We are pleased to share an exciting development for one of our own. Greg Heileman, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, has been appointed Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the Lebanese American University effective September 1, 2026.
Over the past seven years, Greg has been an integral part of the Office of the Provost leadership team, and his many contributions have helped build a strong foundation for academic excellence at the U of A.
His tenure was defined by resilience and progress through a range of challenges, including the global pandemic, leadership transitions and a complex external environment in higher education. His ability to guide and support our academic mission during these times has been deeply valued by all of us who work alongside him.
As a professor of electrical and computer engineering, Greg was committed to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students through hands-on, experiential learning. He put innovation into practice through initiatives such as CatCoin, the Transfer Portal, and Ranked Analysis of Major Program System (RAMPS), which gives students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and develop real-world skills.
Greg also played an important role in shaping institutional priorities and advancing the university’s strategic initiatives and Academic Success Goals. We are grateful for his leadership and his commitment to student success, both grounded in collaboration and care for our campus community. As he transitions to his new role this summer, he is committed to a smooth handover and continuity of ongoing work.
While we will miss him, we are proud to see his leadership recognized and are confident he will make a meaningful impact at the Lebanese American University, an international institution with a growing global presence.
We will conduct an internal search process to select an interim vice provost to oversee Greg’s portfolio while we prepare for a permanent vice provost for academic affairs search. We encourage qualified academic leaders to apply for this interim role by Monday, May 18.
