Our Responsibility is to Provide Reasonable accommodations

April 13, 2000

The University of Arizona, in all its programs, events, and activities, is required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to:

  • not discriminate against persons with a disability in admissions;
  • provide an equal opportunity to individuals with a disability to participate in University programs services, and activities (including events held off campus); and
  • provide reasonable accommodations, such as sign language interpreters, material in alternative format, or adaptive equipment.

As a University program sponsor, you must give notice regarding the accommodation process. If you are creating a brochure, flyer, or advertisement, you must include the following statement:

Persons with a disability may request a reasonable accommodation, such as a sign language interpreter, by contacting (*name and number, including e-mail if possible) or you may contact CeDRR (The Center for Disability Related Resources) at 621-3268 (V/TTY). Requests should be made as early as possible to allow time to arrange the accommodation.

Include the name and number of a person in your department who can respond appropriately to requests for accommodations. If you do not have the capability to accept accommodation calls at your unit, the CeDRR number will suffice.

It is helpful to include the CeDRR number to provide a TTY number as well
as an alternative if your office is not available.

CeDRR is available to provide assistance in identifying appropriate accommodations and resources to assist with accommodation implementation or costs. Never deny an accommodation request without consulting with either CeDRR or the ADA/504 Officer, who can determine if the accommodation is an undue burden or a required accommodation, given the resources available to the University.

Call 626-4133 or e-mail Susan Free, ADA/504 officer for more information. For information on physical access to buildings and sites, including off-campus locations, e-mail John Mosser, physical access coordinator at 626-3250.
