Acclaimed Conductor to Lead Kirov Orchestra

Maestro Valery Gergiev, recognized music director, will lead the 120-piece Kirov Orchestra in a UA Centennial Hall performance on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. The program includes Peter's Ilich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, Claude Debussy's classic La Mer, and Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 1 featuring pianist Alexander Toradze.

Tickets, priced at $48 to $60, are currently on sale. Discounts are available for students, subscribers and UA faculty and staff.

The performance is the first event in UApresents 2000/2001 Classical Series, sponsored by APS/Arizona Public Service. A UA School of Music faculty member will offer a free "Arts Encounter" discussion of classical music 45 minutes before the performance. It will be held in the Center for English as a Second Language , 1100 E. North Campus Drive, room 102.
