This summer at the University of Arizona, numerous centers, departments and programs are hosting exhibitions, talks, training sessions, tours and other activities for people of all ages.

The Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research is hosting free, docent-led group tours on July 12 and 20. To learn more, and for reservations, contact Pamela Pelletier at 520-621-0984 or pamela@email.arizona.edu.

The Biosphere 2, which Time Life Books named one of the 50 Must-See Wonders of the World, is hosting tours daily.

And the Worlds of Words international children's literature library, housed within the UA College of Education, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Others include:

  • "Shakespeare's Contemporaries and Elizabethan Culture," the companion exhibit to the installation of First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare, remains open until July 29 at Special Collections. 
  • "The Lebowski Cycle," by UA School of Art alumnus Joe Forkan at the UA Museum of Art. The exhibition features a series of paintings and drawings exploring narratives using masterpieces of European art and the 1998 Coen Brothers' film, "The Big Lebowski," as a starting point. Also showing is "Revolutionary Dreams: Modern Mexican Prints," featuring works by artists such as Leopoldo Mendez, Rufino Tamayo and Diego Rivera from UAMA's permanent collection.
  • Exhibitions, readings and a book club, among other events, sponsored by the UA Poetry Center, including the July 28 Reading & Lecture Series celebrating new publications from center staff members Renee Angle and Wendy Burk, to be held at 7 p.m.
  • SummerNights StarGazing events held at the Mount Lemmon SkyCenter on clear nights.
  • Tours held at the Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab most every day, highlighting the scientists who are contributing to the landmark Giant Magellan Telescope, which is schedule for completion in 2021 in Chile's Atacama Desert.
