High Drama, Comedy at UA's Marroney Theatre
The great Italian tenor Il Stupendo is scheduled to sing the lead in the Cleveland Opera's "Otello." When his wife leaves him a "Dear John" letter, however, the distraught singer takes a double dose of tranquilizers.
With curtain time rapidly approaching, opera management kicks into damage control — and what follows is a laugh-out-loud chain reaction of mistaken identity, farcical plot twists, double entendres and musical mayhem.
This is the story of Ken Ludwig's "Lend Me a Tenor," one organized and produced by UA students and employees. Ludwig's production is a winner of three Tony Awards and four Drama Desk Awards. The play also was nominated for an Olivier for Best Comedy of the Year.
The Arizona Repertory Theatre production runs through Oct. 12 at the Marroney Theatre, located on the UA campus near the southeastern corner of North Park Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard. More information is available online.
