Class of 2015: Artists Exit With Museum Show

An annual tradition since 1970, the University of Arizona Museum of Art is hosting the M.F.A. thesis exhibition, featuring the work of students who are graduating with their master's degrees in May.

The exhibition features the work of photographers, graphic designers, multimedia artists and others, including Kejun Li, whose watercolor pieces are based on an investigation of extinct birds.

Thomas Saffle's "Plane of Existence" is a modular oil piece on a curved wooden support.

"I'm trying to immerse the person into the space by using structural support, which I then paint on," Soffle said about the piece, which is meant to symbolize a large, curved landscape.

Jesse Chehak's work "conflates analog, photo performative video and site-specific photos in a way that becomes archival," he said. His "Reflection Survey #1" is time-lapse photography. Chehak documents the landscape in his native California, capturing images of permanent changes in the envionrment that signal both natural processes and human influence. The work, he said, represents his "romantic connection" with the landscape.

The exhibition will remain open through May 15, the day before Commencement.

The UA's 151st Commencement ceremony will be held on May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Arizona Stadium. More information about the ceremony is available online for 2015 graduates and also family members and other guests.
