Nominated by faculty and peers, six UA seniors have been selected to receive awards at the UA's spring commencement ceremony in recognition of their exemplary work and service. A seventh student has been chosen to receive the first Provost Award, given to a student who transferred to the UA from an Arizona community college.
UA undergraduate researchers Shaina Hasan and Carl Buchholz have been named Beckman Scholars, an honor given to students with exceptional promise as future leaders in science and medicine. The Beckman Foundation chose to give the funding to students at the UA because of its record of success in supporting undergraduate researchers.
Arizona Cooperative Extension's century of service was celebrated during an event that included a special message sent by the governor. Last year, the program engaged about 20,000 volunteers and nearly 200,000 youth across Arizona.
