Phoenix Getting UA Cancer Center

Plans are under way for the Arizona Cancer Center to open a location in downtown Phoenix, at Fillmore and Seventh streets. The lot is part of the Phoenix Biomedical Campus, which is home to the UA College of Medicine-Phoenix and the Translational Genomics Research Institute.

Is There an Ice-Spewing Volcano on Titan?

Using data from the NASA Cassini Equinox mission, scientists have spotted strong evidence of an ice volcano on Saturn's moon, Titan. Said UA planetary scientist Jeffrey Kargel: "This is the very best evidence, by far, for volcanic topography anywhere documented on an icy satellite."

Mars Has Liquid Water Close to Surface, Study Hints

Pools of liquid water may exist just a few meters below the Martian surface, new research indicates. The reservoirs might be similar to the aquifers that lie beneath the icy permafrost in Earth's northern regions, said study co-author Jeffrey Kargel, a research scientist at the UA.

Whitefly Research Benefits Agriculture, Environment

UA researchers are studying the bacterium that transforms a cotton pest into a super-pest. What they discover could lead to an environmentally friendly way to control whiteflies in Southern Arizona. Whiteflies can reduce the quality and yield of cotton and other agricultural crops, and they transmit viruses from plant to plant.
