University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella has released his second annual letter to the university community, detailing how the university advanced its strategic imperatives over the past year while positioning itself for even greater impact in the years ahead.

The letter chronicles a university building extraordinary momentum across every aspect of its mission. 

"What a year it has been for the U of A! One of transformation, moving our great institution into a bright future while staying true to our identity and values," Garimella wrote. "It is fitting that this momentum builds as we celebrate 100 years of our iconic rallying cry, Bear Down. More than a simple motto, Bear Down encapsulates the U of A's distinctive spirit and our capacity to persevere in every challenge."

The letter details dozens of examples of that momentum, including higher graduation rates, expanded advising and no-cost mental health services, a third consecutive year of flat resident undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees, increased study abroad participation, Arizona's first rural medical school branch in Yuma, the integration of Arizona Online and the University of Arizona Global Campus, key leadership appointments, record philanthropic support and a balanced budget. It also highlights a historic year for Arizona Athletics, including men's basketball's first Final Four appearance in 25 years and the Big 12 Allstate Commissioner's Cup.

Garimella also looks ahead with optimism, describing how the university is strengthening its foundation through investments in artificial intelligence, space science, healthcare, workforce development, community partnerships and global engagement while remaining focused on its highest priority of success for every student.

"I am grateful to our faculty and staff for their dedication to our mission, and to our students, whose success remains our North Star," Garimella wrote. "As we celebrate 100 years of Bear Down, we are already looking forward to the next 100 years of being a force for good."
