COVID-19 upended our daily lives, routines and rituals. Now, as the world begins to open back up and “get back to normal,” life looks very different – especially for those of us who have lost a loved one. Bereavement can affect more than emotion and mood; it also has an impact on the cardiovascular and immune systems. When the burden is great, it can trigger what is sometimes referred to as the “broken-heart phenomenon.” What can science tell us about regaining emotional and physical balance in our time of grieving?
