Arthritis Center Lecture – 'Facts vs. Fiction' of COVID-19 Vaccines

When: April 07, 2021 6:00pm

A livestreamed lecture by University of Arizona Health Sciences immunologist Deepta Bhattacharya, offers an expert look at COVID-19 vaccines, variants and immunity.

Vaccines being administered across the U.S. and around the world are providing a much needed dose of hope in the fight against COVID-19. With millions of Americans receiving their shots each day, different vaccines being used and new variants emerging, expert guidance is needed on immunity, vaccine effectiveness and safety. The "Living Healthy with Arthritis" lecture series will address those issues during "Fact vs. Fiction: The Expert Look at COVID-19 Vaccines."

The 60-minute talk, hosted by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center, features Deepta Bhattacharya, associate professor of immunobiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and member of the BIO5 Institute. Bhattacharya's research focuses on antibody responses to infections and vaccines. Last year, he co-led a research team that developed one of the most accurate blood tests to check for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.

The lecture will address questions such as:

  • How do the different authorized vaccines protect us from COVID-19?
  • What do the new coronavirus variants mean for vaccine efficacy?
  • How long do we expect immunity from vaccines and/or previous infection to last?
  • Should we expect booster or seasonal vaccinations in the future?
  • How will vaccines bring an end to the pandemic?

The event is open to the public and will include time for questions and answers. Prior registration is required and can be completed by using the link below.
