Military Family Gets a Surprise During UA Game at McKale

It's not unusual for the UA to recognize the contributions of the men and women who serve in the armed forces.

So nothing seemed out of the ordinary when Arizona Wildcats fan Tanya Campbell – wife of Master Sgt. Chris Campbell of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base – and their children, Alexander and Amelia, were called to the floor of the McKale Memorial Center on Thursday evening to be thanked for the sacrifices they have made during Campbell's deployment to Asia.

The thousands of fans who had come to watch Arizona's game against Southern joined Tanya Campbell and her kids as they turned their eyes to the scoreboard screen to watch a pre-recorded message from Chris Campbell to his wife and children. During the nearly 17 years they have been married, Campbell has been deployed five times.

"I miss you. I love you very much," Campbell told his family in the message. "I know this has been the hardest deployment for you all. When I come home, I will make it up for you. This is just another Christmas apart, but I will be home soon."

Moments later, Campbell, who has been deployed for months, rushed onto the floor and into the arms of his stunned family.

And FYI: The No. 1 ranked Wildcats took the game against Southern, 69-43.
