Oct. 16, 2015

Inspired by the early works of Frank Lloyd Wright in her hometown of River Forest, Illinois, Heather Lenkin chose the University of Arizona because it had degree programs in landscape architecture, interior design and architecture.

Lenkin is an alumna of three UA colleges: the Honors College, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, or CAPLA.

Lenkin's company, Lenkin Design, specializes in architectural and landscape design and consultation, and she is a leader in her field, recognized not only for her technical expertise but also for her creativity and sensitivity to context. Her work has been extensively featured on television, in books and magazines, in home and garden tours, and at trade shows. Her professional accomplishments are reflected in the long list of awards her work has garnered. She even has a rose named in her honor.

Throughout her career, Lenkin has maintained close ties with the UA as a member of the advisory boards of the Honors College and CAPLA. She also underwrote the Lenkin Honors Study Lounge in the Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences and the green roof and garden at CAPLA. Recently, she provided the seed funding for a new endowed scholarship in CAPLA.

For her commitment to lifelong learning and intellectual engagement and to the UA, Lenkin has been named the Honors College's 2015 Alumna of the Year.

The UA Alumni Association will honor all recipients of the 2015 Alumni of the Year Awards during an Oct. 23 event to be held 3-5 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Student Union Memorial Center. For more information, contact the Alumni Association at 520-621-7576.
