Nearly 400 students, faculty members and professional composers tried for top placement in the nationwide Rapido! 14-Day Composition Contest, which requires that composers create a piece for the oboe, violin, cello and piano during a two-week period. Not only did UA Honors College student Charles Zoll earn a spot in the competition, but his piece won and will now be performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
On the eve of Black History Month, U.S. President Barack Obama proclaimed that the nation should honor the many ways African Americans have and continue to uphold the ideals of freedom, democracy and visionary work. Today, as the UA campus community gears up for a month of events, several UA students and staff speak about ways they honor Black history and heritage.
